7. App permissions and device controls

Meshup may request access to device features. You can control these permissions in your device settings.

  1. Location: used to enable nearby discovery, map features, distance-related features, local recommendations, and safety controls. You can disable location access at any time.
  2. Photos and camera: used if you choose to upload a profile photo, post images, share moments, or create visual content.
  3. Microphone: used only if you choose to record audio, video, or voice messages.
  4. Notifications: used if you enable push notifications for messages, events, follows, activity updates, reminders, or service notices.
  5. Contacts: used only if we offer contact-based features and you choose to enable them.

8. Location privacy

Location is important to Meshup’s nearby discovery features, but you remain in control. If you enable location access, we may use your location to show nearby people, events, groups, and content, to calculate approximate distance, to power map and radar features, and to improve local recommendations. We do not intentionally show your exact live location to other users unless a specific feature clearly asks you to share it. Even approximate location can sometimes allow others to infer your general area, especially in low-density places, so you should only enable location features if you are comfortable with that risk.

Where available, you may use app settings to reduce or hide distance visibility, pause nearby visibility, or choose a city manually instead of relying on device location. The exact controls may vary by app version, operating system, and feature availability.

9. Public, shared, and private information

Meshup is a social service. Some information may be visible to other users depending on the feature and your choices, such as your username, profile photo, interests, profile details, public content, hosted events, group participation, badges, and activity that is designed to be social. Messages are intended to be visible only to participants in the conversation, but we may process messages for delivery, safety, abuse prevention, support, and legal compliance. Please do not share information publicly that you do not want others to see, copy, save, or share.

10. How we disclose information

We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

  1. To other users, according to the feature, your settings, your actions, and the visibility of your profile, content, event, group, or message.
  2. To service providers that help us operate the Service, such as hosting, database, authentication, storage, analytics, crash reporting, email, notifications, payments, app-store infrastructure, moderation, security, and customer support providers.
  3. For safety and legal reasons, including to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, prevent fraud, and enforce our terms.
  4. In business transactions, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.
  5. With your direction or consent, when you choose to share information, connect with others, use integrations, or authorize a disclosure.
  6. In aggregated or de-identified form, where information is designed not to identify you personally.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If this changes, we will update this policy and provide any legally required choices.

11. Third-party services

We use third-party providers to operate, secure, analyze, and improve the Service. These providers may process personal information on our behalf and are permitted to use it only as needed to provide services to us or as otherwise allowed by law. Third-party services may include hosting and backend infrastructure, cloud storage, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, app-store services, payment processors, email delivery, push notifications, moderation, security, customer support, and identity verification if enabled. Third-party websites or services linked from Meshup are governed by their own privacy policies.

Where required by law, we will request consent or provide choices for non-essential cookies or tracking technologies.

13. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to provide the Service, maintain your account, support safety and integrity, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain security. Retention periods depend on the type of information, the sensitivity of the information, the reason we collected it, legal requirements, and operational needs.

When you delete your account or request deletion, we delete or de-identify personal information unless we need to retain it for legitimate business, safety, security, legal, tax, accounting, dispute-resolution, or fraud-prevention reasons. Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted according to our backup practices.

14. Account deletion

You can request account deletion in the app where available or by emailing support@meshup.social. We may ask you to verify that you own the account. Deleting your account may not automatically remove content that other users have already seen, copied, shared, or that is retained for safety, legal, or integrity reasons.

15. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, such as access controls, encryption in transit where appropriate, monitoring, and limits on who can access personal information. No system is completely secure, so you should use strong credentials, keep your account information confidential, and tell us promptly if you believe your account or information has been compromised.

16. International transfers

Meshup is operated from Singapore, and our users and service providers may be located in different countries. Your information may be processed, stored, or transferred in Singapore, the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other countries where we or our service providers operate. These countries may have privacy laws that differ from those in your location. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as contractual protections, data-processing agreements, standard contractual clauses, or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms.

17. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to:

  1. access or receive a copy of personal information we hold about you;
  2. correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
  3. delete personal information;
  4. restrict or object to certain processing;
  5. withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  6. receive your information in a portable format where required;
  7. opt out of marketing communications;
  8. appeal or complain if you believe we have not handled your request properly.

To exercise rights, email support@meshup.social. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. Some rights may be limited by law, safety, fraud-prevention needs, or the rights of other users.

Where permitted by law, you may use an authorized agent to submit a privacy request for you. We may require proof that the agent is authorized to act on your behalf and may still ask you to verify your identity or confirm the request directly. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision or emailing us with the subject line “Privacy Request Appeal”.

18. Regional privacy disclosures

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

For users in Singapore, we process personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA), including obligations relating to consent, purpose notification, access and correction, protection, retention, transfer safeguards, and breach notification where applicable. You may contact us about PDPA-related requests at support@meshup.social.

United States

U.S. privacy laws may provide rights depending on your state, including rights to know, access, correct, delete, obtain a copy, opt out of certain processing, and appeal a decision. We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We also do not knowingly use sensitive personal information for purposes that require a “Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information” link under California law. If our practices change, we will update this policy and provide required notices and choices.

California notice at collection

We may collect the categories listed in Section 2, including identifiers, account information, internet or electronic network activity, geolocation information if enabled, user content, commercial information if you purchase paid features, audio/visual information if you upload or record it, inferences based on interests and activity, and sensitive personal information where applicable. We collect and use these categories for the purposes listed in Section 5 and retain them as described in Section 13. We do not sell or share these categories for cross-context behavioral advertising.

California “Shine the Light”

Canada

For users in Canada, we aim to handle personal information in line with Canadian privacy principles, including accountability, identifying purposes, consent, limiting collection, limiting use and disclosure, accuracy, safeguards, openness, access, and complaint handling. 19. Minimum age

Meshup is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not intentionally direct the Service to children or knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 18, you should not create an account or use the Service unless permitted by applicable law and, where required, with appropriate parent or guardian involvement. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

20. Automated processing, recommendations, and moderation

Meshup may use automated systems to help rank content, recommend people, events, groups, or interests, detect spam, identify suspicious activity, support moderation, and improve safety. We do not intend to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing without appropriate safeguards.

21. Do Not Track and opt-out preference signals

Some browsers or devices offer “Do Not Track” or opt-out preference signals. Because standards vary, we may not respond to all such signals unless required by applicable law. Where legally required and technically feasible, we will honor recognized opt-out preference signals.

22. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice, such as in-app notice or email, where appropriate or legally required.
